CITY DESCRIPTION:BARILOCHE or correctly San Carlos
de Bariloche is arguably the most famous ski resort area in the Southern
Hemisphere. It's located on the eastern slopes of the Andes Mountains about
1,000 miles southwest of Buenos Aires at 2,500 feet above sea level. Surrounding
mountains reach 8,000 feet. The principal mountains Otto, Catedral, Campanario,
Lopez and Chall-Huaco offer degrees of difficulty from beginner to expert
making it a great place to learn or to challenge the more advanced skiers
or snowboarders or just enjoy the scenery. For your stay you can choose
from resorts of the highest international quality, or for those more interested
in just skiing on a smaller budget, lower priced hotels are available.
Of course it has a good selection of shops where you can completely outfit
yourself in the latest in ski equipment and ski wear and restaurants offering
everything from typical Argentine cuisine to very fashionable international
selections. For those preferring indoor sports discos and bars abound.
Its surrounding lakes and rivers have a lot to offer for the leisure traveler
in the summer season from rafting to trekking to mountain biking. It can
be reached by road or air from Buenos Aires and from Chile.
