CITY DESCRIPTION: VILLA LA ANGOSTURA, starting with the dull but
important stuff, is in the Province of Neuquen about 1,250 Miles southwest
of Buenos Aires on the eastern slopes of the Andes and has 4,400 inhabitants.
More to the point it is between Argentina's two major ski resorts San Martin
and Bariloche (located 50 miles to the South of the latter) and can be
reached by paved roads from both. In the USA it is kind of like a Taos,
NM, compared to an Aspen CO. But a big difference is that it has preserved
its beauty in spite of the popularity (and crowds) of its neighboring resorts.
It helps that it, and the region's gateway of Bariloche, are far from the
madding crowd. It is still an out-of-the-way destination, not a stop on
the way to someplace else. It is increasingly popular resort, especially
for good fishing, skiing, trekking and Alpine sports. As small as it is
it does have a good selection of places to stay, you can chose from cabins
to hotels to hosterias, and places to eat.
